THE ORIENTAL PARK

VISUAL IDENTITYwebsiteMENU DESIGNCOLLATERAL DESIGNuniform designphoto guidelinesTHE PROJECTThe Oriental Park is an all-day dining destination in the heart of Kuala Lumpur — a space where bold Asian flavours meet the spirit of exploration. Drawing from Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, and Malaysian cuisines, it is the kind of place where every dish feels like an invitation to discover something new.
The client, PDS Malaysia, is a hospitality company guided by the Japanese philosophy of Omotenashi — the art of selfless, anticipatory service. They operate restaurants, hotels, and event venues across Malaysia, and The Oriental Park is one of their flagship dining concepts: ambitious in scope, deeply considered in execution.
The brief was to create a complete visual identity for a restaurant that is simultaneously rooted and adventurous — one that honors the richness of the cultures it draws from while feeling cohesive, distinctive, and entirely its own.
MOODBOARD
COLONIAL TRAVEL AESTHETICSThe interior of The Oriental Park carries the spirit of a refined colonial era — and the visual identity follows. We drew from the elegance of period travel: the warmth of natural materials like linen, leather and dark wood, the restraint of earthy, muted color palettes, and the quiet romance of travel memorabilia — journals, stationery, postage stamps. There is something deeply evocative about the aesthetics of that era of exploration, and we wanted that feeling woven into every touchpoint of the brand.
ART NOUVEAUArt Nouveau became the natural bridge between the two. This 19th and early 20th century movement was itself a fusion — drawing from Japanese prints, tribal craftsmanship, colonial architecture, and the organic forms of the natural world. Its flowing lines and ornamental boldness gave us the visual language to unite colonial restraint with Asian vibrancy into something seamless and coherent. Art Nouveau doesn't sit between the two influences — it connects them.
MALACCA & ASIAN CULTURAL INFLUENCESThe second layer brings vibrancy and depth. Drawing from the places most relevant to the brand's story — Malacca and Langkawi in Malaysia, Japan, Islamic culture — we incorporated elements that elevate the palette and introduce boldness: natural textiles, eclectic prints, Japanese characters, geometric patterns, and the lush, tropical energy of an island resort. These cultural references are not decorative choices — they are the heart of what makes The Oriental Park distinct.
visual identityThe Oriental Park is where travel becomes a feeling. The visual identity draws from three converging worlds — the refined nostalgia of colonial-era travel aesthetics, the vibrant cultural richness of Southeast and East Asia, and the organic elegance of Art Nouveau — weaving them into something entirely its own.
The result is a world of old-world charm and adventurous spirit, where linen and leather meet bold tropical patterns, where postage stamps and travel journals share space with Japanese characters and Islamic geometry. It is eclectic without being chaotic, nostalgic without being static — a visual language that celebrates the joy of discovery and the beauty of cultures in conversation.
the conceptAt the heart of The Oriental Park lives a rare flower. Legend has it that Yuki — the Japanese traveler-chef at the origin of the brand's story — received a Medinilla Magnifica from a wise Malaysian elder during his travels. Known also as the Malaysian Orchid, this extraordinary bloom became the emblem of the brand: a symbol where nature, journey, and the meeting of cultures converge into a single, unmistakable mark.

color paletteThe palette draws from three worlds: the earthy warmth of colonial-era travel, the lush vibrancy of tropical Asia, and the organic elegance of Art Nouveau. Muted and grounded at its base, with moments of color that feel bold without shouting — the kind of palette that ages well and feels instantly familiar.
TYPOGRAPHYThe typographic system pairs calligraphy, serif, and sans-serif fonts — each carrying a different register of the brand's personality. The calligraphy brings handcraft and story; the serif carries timelessness and weight; the sans-serif keeps it grounded and legible. Together they move between warmth and refinement without losing coherence.
hand-drawn Floral Motifs
Rooted in Art Nouveau's deep reverence for the natural world, the floral motifs are drawn by hand — curved, organic, rhythmic. They appear as small details across menus, social media, and printed materials: never the loudest thing in the room, but always the most considered. Jewel-like in their precision, wild in their inspiration.
PHOTOGRAPHY GUIDELINESThe photography of The Oriental Park is expressive and deliberate. Every image carries a sense of story — not staged, but discovered. Rich textures, intricate details, warm light, and the occasional mysterious shadow. The camera moves through the space the way a curious traveler would: noticing everything, rushing nothing.
websiteuniform designThe uniforms draw from the clothing of colonial-era explorers — worn-in, purposeful, and ready for wherever the day takes you. Linen is the primary material: breathable, textured, and carrying that particular quality of fabric that only gets better with use. It feels historical without being costumed, adventurous without being theatrical.
The designs balance the romance of expedition aesthetics with real-world functionality — because a uniform that looks the part but gets in the way of service defeats its own purpose. The result is staff clothing that becomes a natural extension of the brand, quietly reinforcing the spirit of discovery that runs through everything The Oriental Park does.
